Tactility in reading

The project Tactility in reading explores the influences of a physical form on the narrative of a publication.

Through a series of 5 small booklets, each with the exact same content but presented in different forms, the reader is questioned whether receiving content  through a particular physicality changes the way they experience and interpret its story. Tactile elements that differ between the booklets include: (subtle) changes in paper stock, shade, weight or grain direction, different bindings methods and materials, and graphic finishing elements such as blind embossing, perforation cuts, french folded pages.

All findings were later collectively published, together with additional secondary research, in a small pocket edition.

Research & design by Koen Slothouber. Content for the research publications came from the book Zaha Hadid: Pierres Vives, photographs by Helene Binet.
